Stephen Pon

Stephen a fait le choix de tout miser sur l’art, de s’investir à plein temps à la réalisation de sculptures de verre, toutes uniques. Sa persévérance, l’originalité et la maîtrise technique de ses sculptures lui permettent d'être représenté par des galeries d’art spécialisées tant au Canada qu'aux États-Unis, d’intégrer plusieurs grandes collections publiques, de nombreuses collections de particuliers, d’exposer en solo et en collectif dans des espaces spécialisés et d’avoir fait l’objet de publications, notamment par la revue allemande GlasHaus.

Stephen Pon a aussi gagné plusieurs prix de reconnaissance dont le prix Jean-Marie-Gauvreau en 2021 pour sa sculpture Odyssey, en reconnaissance d'un travail exceptionnel au cours des cinq dernières années. De plus, Stephen Pon a représenté le Canada lors de prestigieuses expositions nationales et internationales en métiers d’art. Son travail a ainsi été exposé plus d’une dizaine de fois aux SOFA de Chicago et de New York, mais également présenté aux Art Palm Beach en Floride, à la Biennale internationale des métiers d’art de Cheongju en 2009, au Philadelphia Museum Art of Craft Show en 2007 ainsi qu’au au Carrousel du Louvre en 2008.

Le travail de Stephen Pon tout en étant sans cesse en évolution, se distingue au premier regard. Dès différentes séries de gondoles et de navires, aux sculptures de ses personnages empreints d’expression, l’artiste nous révèle des créations uniques qui prennent leur source et combinent l’antique et le contemporain, comportant leurs mythes et les symbolismes suscitant la métaphore. « Depuis mes toutes premières œuvres jusqu’à mes plus récentes, j’exprime une vision du mouvement, du voyage de la vie. Tel un cours d'eau sinueux, le destin nous amène à des endroits insoupçonnés dans un univers onirique ou l’homme et les symboles qui l’entourent ont toute leur importance. Navigant sur les mers du destin, l'homme fait son chemin. »
L’artiste se distingue également avec ses œuvres d’art extérieures combinant l’acier et le verre, car la lumière qu’elle soit naturelle ou artificielle de nuit, apporte au verre éclats et transparence. Des projets uniques d’intégration à l’architecture chez des particuliers viennent compléter son emploi du temps.

Stephen has chosen to bet everything on art, to invest full time in the creation of glass sculptures, all unique. His perseverance, originality and technical mastery of his sculptures allow him to be represented by specialized art galleries in both Canada and the United States, to be part of several large public and private collections including those of Loto-Québec, Cirque du Soleil and numerous collections of individuals, to exhibit solo and in groups in specialized spaces and to have been the subject of publications, in particular by the German magazine GlasHaus.

Stephen Pon has also won several recognition awards including the Jean-Marie-Gauvreau Award in 2021 for his sculpture Odyssey, in recognition of outstanding work over the past five years. In addition, Stephen Pon has represented Canada at prestigious national and international craft shows. Stephen Pon's work, while constantly evolving, stands out at first glance. From different series of gondolas and ships, to the sculptures of his characters imbued with expression, the artist reveals unique creations that take their source and combine the ancient and the contemporary, including their myths and symbolisms arousing the metaphor. "From my very first works to my most recent, I express a vision of movement, of the journey of life. Like a winding stream, fate takes us to unsuspected places in a dreamlike universe where the man and the symbols which surround him have all their importance. Sailing on the seas of fate, man is making his way. Affecting doubt, lyricism, dreams and the movement of water, I am inspired and try to stage both nature and culture”.
The artist also distinguishes himself by his outdoor works of art combining steel, glass, and light, whether natural or artificial, it gives glass a fourth dimension through its transparency. Unique projects integrating architecture with private individuals complete his schedule.
